POLICE who are safe and useful for children
Children and young people who have been in contact with the police know when the police feel safe and unsafe - and when they feel useful or not. Many also have clear advice on what the police need to do to stop them safely. On these pages you can find publications, films and exercises that contain knowledge from children and children's procedural rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Some are also based on dialogues between children and professionals. The aim is to help ensure that as many people as possible encounter a safe and useful police force. Professionals and police students need this knowledge.
Changefactory has in recent years systematically collected experiences and advice from children and young people who have been in contact with the police. More than 400 have given direct advice to the police (as of April 1, 2023). These are children and young people who have been victims of violence and/or who have used violence. Responses from many, in many parts of the country, are summarized into main responses - and into knowledge from children.
